Five ways you can lower your risk of having a heart attack or stroke:

Stop smoking if you’re currently a smoker (for help, ask your doctor or pharmacist about programs for quitting).
Talk to your doctor about starting a physical activity program (e.g. walking), and adopt a low-fat diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables.
Maintain healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels - your doctor can help.
If you have diabetes, make sure that your blood glucose levels are kept under control.
Stick to the medication schedule your doctor has prescribed which might include: antiplatelet, blood pressure and cholesterol medications/therapies.
